Overview
Accel is a global venture capital firm founded in 1983. Arthur Patterson and Jim Swartz started the firm in Palo Alto. Accel entered India in 2008. It acquired the Erasmic Venture Fund that year. That fund managed $10 million and was run by four partners. Prashanth Prakash and Subrata Mitra led the India team from the start. The India practice now runs out of Bengaluru.

Fund Size and Portfolio
Accel closed its eighth India fund at $650 million in January 2026. Its seventh fund, closed in 2022, was the same size. Total commitments to India now sit near $3 billion. Flipkart remains one of its earliest and most cited investments. Swiggy and Urban Company also appear among its highlighted names. Swiggy and Zinka Logistics, known as BlackBuck, both went public in 2024.
Leadership
Prashanth Prakash and Subrata Mitra founded Accel's India practice in 2008. Prakash had built two earlier companies before turning to investing. Mitra previously ran the India operations of Tavant Technologies. Anand Daniel, Shekhar Kirani, and Dinesh Katiyar lead alongside them today. Daniel led Swiggy's first institutional check at a $2 million valuation.
