Himalayan Capital

Himalayan Capital backs early-stage consumer tech, AI and fintech startups in India.

Overview

Himalayan Capital is an India-focused early-stage investment firm founded by investor Osborne Saldanha. The fund was formalized in 2025 after Saldanha began making direct startup investments earlier that year. It works with founders building businesses across consumer technology, artificial intelligence and fintech, with a particular focus on companies addressing large and evolving consumer markets in India.

The firm's philosophy is built around being a high-conviction partner to founders rather than simply providing capital. It positions itself as a "base camp" partner for entrepreneurs with the ambition and resilience to build category-defining companies.

Investment Focus and Stage

Himalayan Capital invests at the early stages, with individual investments ranging from $100,000 to $1 million. Its core areas are consumer tech, AI and fintech.

The firm's investment approach is founder-focused. It looks for entrepreneurs with a strong bias toward action and the ability to build through uncertainty, while deliberately avoiding filters based purely on educational credentials, previous employers or brand names.

Consumer technology is particularly important to its thesis. Himalayan Capital sees India's consumption market as a long-term opportunity and aims to build a portfolio that participates in the expansion of digital and technology-enabled consumption.

Fund Size and Portfolio

Himalayan Capital is building its portfolio through its early-stage fund platform rather than operating around a publicly stated large institutional fund pool.

Its portfolio includes Simetrik, a financial automation and reconciliation platform; BytePe, a curated commerce marketplace for premium lifestyle products; Flent, a residential rental marketplace; Shoffr, a scheduled cab-hailing platform; and Agara, a Southeast Asian prediction-markets business.

The firm's broader investment history also includes businesses such as Jar and Tartan, reflecting Saldanha's experience across fintech, commerce and technology startups. Himalayan Capital's portfolio is still at an early stage, with the firm continuing to build its base of founder partnerships.

Leadership

Osborne Saldanha is the founder of Himalayan Capital. He has more than a decade of experience across early-stage investing and startup operations in India, Southeast Asia and Europe.

Before establishing Himalayan Capital, Saldanha worked across venture investing and operating roles, including fintech investment at Xiaomi and an investment role at Emphasis Ventures. He has also worked with Tuscan Ventures and built Fintech Inside, a newsletter and community focused on financial technology.

His investment philosophy centers on conviction and long-term founder relationships. Rather than taking an intrusive approach to portfolio support, he emphasizes being available when founders need help with fundraising, market access, partnerships, hiring or strategic decisions.
