Gruhas
Gruhas invests in Indian startups across climate, AI, deeptech and built-world technology.
Overview
Gruhas is a Bengaluru-based investment firm founded in 2021 by Abhijeet Pai and Nikhil Kamath. It began with a strong focus on PropTech and the built environment before expanding its mandate across areas that shape how India lives, works and consumes. Today, Gruhas backs companies across climate technology and sustainability, built world technology, artificial intelligence, media and consumption, and deep technology. Its investment approach centers on founders tackling long-term problems with technology, capital and operational support.
Investment Focus and Stage
Gruhas invests from Seed to Growth, with its current thesis spanning several connected areas of the economy. In climate and sustainability, it looks at energy transition, decentralized grids, alternative fuels and sustainable materials. Its Built World focus covers infrastructure, real estate, construction technology, robotics and urban challenges.
The firm also invests in AI and deep technology, including autonomous robotics, advanced hardware, space and defence technologies. Its consumer and media mandate extends into consumer brands, content, creator-focused businesses and new forms of consumption.
This broader approach reflects Gruhas' evolution from a PropTech-focused investor into a platform covering the infrastructure, technology and consumption shifts shaping India's next decade.
Fund Size and Portfolio
Gruhas operates multiple investment vehicles rather than a single fund. These include the Gruhas Proptech Opportunities Fund, the Gruhas Collective Consumer Fund and the Earth Fund, created with Brigade Group to invest in sustainability, climate resilience and the future of the built environment.
The firm has backed more than 50 companies. Its portfolio includes Ossus Biorenewables, which develops on-site green hydrogen systems using organic waste; Matel, which develops electric powertrains and high-efficiency motors; EMO Energy, focused on fast-charging battery systems; Basic Home Loans, a digital home-financing platform; Primus Senior Living, focused on senior-care communities; and Zerund, which develops construction materials from recycled waste.
Other portfolio companies include SolarSquare, WEGoT, Strata, VRO Hospitality, Rare Rabbit, The 1% Club, Qdesq, Anthriq and IPEC. Recent investments also show Gruhas moving further into enterprise AI, energy transition and deep technology.
Leadership
Abhijeet Pai and Nikhil Kamath are the co-founders of Gruhas. Pai has been closely involved in building the firm's investment platform and its expansion across PropTech, climate, consumer and technology businesses. Kamath, also the co-founder of Zerodha, brings an entrepreneurial and investment background to Gruhas.
The wider investment team includes Rahul Joshi as Vice President, along with investment and portfolio professionals such as Govindaraja Prabhu and Nayan Sarawgi. Gruhas also operates dedicated initiatives such as Gruhas ASPIRE, a six-month accelerator for early-stage Built World Tech startups, and Gruhas Gusto, which supports food companies.
