IndiaQuotient
IndiaQuotient backs Indian founders from paper stage and seed stages.
Overview
IndiaQuotient is a Bengaluru-based venture capital firm founded in 2013 by Anand Lunia and Madhukar Sinha. It focuses on backing founders at the earliest stages and describes itself as a Pre-Seed and Seed-stage VC fund.
The firm is sector agnostic, but its portfolio has developed across Consumer, Fintech, Enterprise & Software, B2B Marketplaces and Social/Media. Its investment philosophy centers on finding entrepreneurs and markets that may be overlooked by conventional venture capital.
Investment Focus and Stage
IndiaQuotient invests from the idea and paper stage, making it one of the firms willing to engage before a startup has meaningful traction. The team says a company can approach it with little more than a team and an idea.
The firm typically invests $500,000 to $1 million, with the ability to invest up to around $2.5 million at the pre-Series A stage.
Rather than following a rigid sector thesis, IndiaQuotient looks for strong entrepreneurs operating in large markets where technology can create new categories or challenge established businesses. Its portfolio reflects this approach, ranging from consumer brands and fintech platforms to enterprise software, B2B marketplaces and social products.
The firm also places considerable emphasis on founder communities. Its portfolio companies participate in regular huddles and peer groups where founders exchange operating experience and help one another solve business problems.
Fund Size and Portfolio
IndiaQuotient operates multiple SEBI-registered alternative investment funds. Its current AIF structure includes India Quotient 2, IQ Alpha III, IQ Opportunities Fund, IQ Startup Fund II and IQ Alpha V.
Rather than representing the platform through a single fund-size figure, its current structure spans multiple investment vehicles built across different stages of its evolution.
The portfolio includes ShareChat, a social platform for Indian-language users; Sugar Cosmetics, a beauty and cosmetics brand; Giva, a jewellery brand; Kuku FM, an audio-content platform; and Vyapar, accounting software for small businesses.
Its wider portfolio includes Lendingkart, WebEngage, Lokal, Frnd, Agrim, BharatAgri, Blitz, FarMart, Open, Jar, Plum, Snapmint, FabAlley, BlueStone and numerous other businesses.
IndiaQuotient's portfolio also contains several notable exits, including Koo, 91mobiles, Belong, Care24, Chillr, Little Eye Labs, Mswipe, Stayzilla, TaxiForSure and others.
Leadership
Anand Lunia is a Founding Partner at IndiaQuotient. He has built his investment career around early-stage technology businesses and is closely involved in identifying new themes and founders before they become widely recognised by the venture market.
Madhukar Sinha is also a Founding Partner and has played a central role in building IndiaQuotient's investment platform.
The current partnership includes Sahil Makkar and Kanika Agarrwal, while Mohit Mittal serves as Vice President. The team operates with a deliberately hands-on approach, with each partner typically investing in a small number of deals each year so that individual portfolio companies receive substantial attention.
