Kalaari Capital

Kalaari Capital invests early in India's emerging technology and consumer businesses.

Overview

Kalaari Capital is an India-focused venture capital firm founded in 2006 and headquartered in Bengaluru. The firm has backed several generations of Indian technology companies and built its reputation around investing early in founders building for large Indian markets. Its portfolio spans consumer businesses, enterprise technology, financial services, healthcare, gaming and emerging technologies.

Investment Focus and Stage

Kalaari primarily invests at the Pre-Seed, Seed and Series A stages, with initial investments generally ranging from $500,000 to $5 million. The firm looks for founders tackling large, structural opportunities where technology can fundamentally change how a market operates.

Its approach has evolved alongside India's startup economy. Earlier investments were concentrated around the rise of consumer internet and digital commerce. The strategy has since expanded toward companies building new technology infrastructure, enterprise products and businesses emerging from advances in AI and deep technology.

Kalaari also looks for founders with a clear understanding of their customer, strong execution capability and the potential to build category-defining businesses. Through its CXXO initiative, the firm separately supports women founders at the early stage, with investments generally ranging from $500,000 to $1 million.

Fund Size and Portfolio

Kalaari has raised four principal funds since inception. Its first fund, launched in 2006, was approximately $190 million, followed by a $160 million Fund II. Fund III closed at around $290 million, while Fund IV was established with backing from Reliance Industries and other investors.

Across its investment platform, Kalaari has backed 100+ companies. Its portfolio includes Myntra, Bluestone, Dream11, Curefit, MedPlus, Jumbotail, Zluri, Milkbasket, Attero, Mettl, Digantara, Agnext, Agrim, Bombay Play, Hyperbots, Peer Robotics, Skit.ai, Eloelo, Portl, Creative Galileo and Resilience AI.

The portfolio covers businesses at different stages of maturity. Several early investments have grown into major technology companies, while newer investments reflect Kalaari's move toward AI, enterprise software and deep technology.
